MonkeyHeaven (Monkey Magic)

American site about Japanese 1970’s TV show “Monkey” ( 西遊記 = さいゆうき = saiyuuki) which I would bet spawned some of the flying-monkey imagery in Dragon Ball Z.

Monkey was based on the Chinese story Hsi Yu Chi (= Journey to the West), which not coincidentally is spelled with the same characters ( 西遊記 ). I’m sure you could trace the monkey character back to the Hindu god Hanuman.

Banana Racket Productions

Random San Rafael amateur production company- starting in February, they aim to have a completed feature by May 1st. Ambitious isn’t it?

Their title: Sixteen Pound Sledge vs The Vegas Vampire.

I think it’s a just-for-fun thing- they didn’t even have a script in February. I personally can’t see putting so much effort into a random design-by-comittee venture, but that’s just my personal preference. Good luck guys!

CUBIS

CUBIS, like wigu, is a sort of surreal story web comic that has a name derived from an acronym.

Actually that’s about the only thing they have in common.

Anyway, Can U Believe I’m Single? is not really as common or succinct a phrase as When I Grow Up (the name of wigu‘s predecessor).

PHP eCommerce packages

Looking for eCommerce solutions on PHP backed by MySQL and Apache. Turns out there are a lot of them!

  • phPay, written by Germans with Apache and MySQL. Looks pretty good… it tracks sessions…

  • ZenCart is a very large system… It looks a little busy and I’m not sure how much I’d have to strip it down. It doesn’t look like there is any inventory admin screens either.

  • osCommerce is also very large…
They claim to have “product statistics” (which may be inventory) but the admin demo is not online.

  • phpShop is a little more spartan- here is their SourceForge page. They have themes and “addons” but I can’t seem to find an online demo.

Debbie Harry- supervillain

I just saw Debbie Harry on “I Love the 70’s” on VH1… She looks good, but not when you compare to her pictures in her prime (1979).

I mean obviously… she was super hot. You know what would be a cool look for her? Sort of a scary goth supervillain thing, like Angelica Huston’s “evil queen” character in Captiain EO. Yeah ok, maybe I’m on crack, but it would still be cool. Fading celebrities make great zany supervillains. Like the Liptons Tea commercial where Bruce Willis is an action hero fighting… The Jeffersons! Awesome.
