Mozilla as a “platform”

There is this thing called the Mozilla Application Framework. There is such a huge volume of powerful, generalised functionality in the Mozilla Project that you can now leverage their code and make your own application with minimal new code.

What this means is if you can conceive of something that uses primarily web technology on the client, you can probably implement it pretty easily in this framework. Application code is so tiny and so fast that you can see it in action just by clicking a single link with no download.
People have already written tons of projects with this framework.

Yay stuff!

Lots of new toys today:

  • found my 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable- importing from the miniDV deck now works
  • Dolly came in the mail from B&H… haven’t tried it on the tripod yet though!
  • tapes and cleaner came from Tape Company
  • I brought the rest of the equipment over from the old house, including the bounce
  • Kirby found us some cheap halogen lights- now we need to do lighting tests to make sure they don’t make us all look like zombies

I should bring my lighting gear over too, but where am I going to put it?
Maybe the fog machine can live next to the generator in Kirby’s garage.

Development on 48 Hour Film Project:

I met two of our actresses today- Lauren and Sarah. Both of them are so young… their enthusiasm is infectious, however- we took them to noodles and my reservations about their inexperience melted away.

They seem very eager and ready to commit to our production. Now it’s up to the Development team- we owe them good lines and characters they can portray.
