Marathon Art

My friend Christine is participating in National Novel Writing Month. My crew and I are doing the 48 Hour Film Project next weekend. Incidentally you’ll notice the 48 Hour Film Project spans the weekend containing the end of Daylight Savings Time- so we will actually have 49 hours. Maybe we should turn it in at 6pm on Sunday as a matter of honor.

There’s a Three-Day Novel Contest run by Blue Lake Books, which runs over Labor Day Weekend (sorry Burning Man!).

And aspo is doing this thing where he posts a new digital photo every day. I seem to recall somewhere there was a thing online where you were given a photo topic and had to turn in a digital photo within 24 hours, but I can’t find it now.

There’s got to be more of these things out there somewhere! Anyone?

I like the deadline aspect– it’s a real kick in the ass to have to turn something in, no matter what its quality or condition. If you want, you can edit it later!

And the nonjudgemental, populist aspect– in most of these, the works don’t even get screened for “quality” or edited at all. And of course, these kinds of events would be difficult to organize without the internet and the web.

  1. I am so ready for nanowrimo! Murphy’s law indicates that as soon as November 1 comes around, I will be struck with writer’s bloc!

I’m debating between getting a rough outline ready beforehand…or taking a more purist approach with no pre-thinking.

also — how do i turn trackback on?! what did i do? what do i do?
