{"id":5679,"date":"2005-04-03T01:07:12","date_gmt":"2005-04-03T09:07:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ikillspies.com\/blog\/2005\/04\/03\/5679\/"},"modified":"2005-04-03T01:07:12","modified_gmt":"2005-04-03T09:07:12","slug":"greg-brown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ikillspies.com\/?p=5679","title":{"rendered":"Greg Brown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greg Brown is a Palo Alto-based artist who specializes in whimsical murals- I had grown up seeing his work downtown without putting together that there was a reason these aliens and burglars seemed sort of similar.<\/p>\n<p \/>\nBrown specializes in a technique called <i>trompe l&#8217;oeil<\/i> (&#8220;fool the eye&#8221;) which basically equals super-realistic shading and detail- murals so realistic that according to legend someone called the police department on the burglars Brown painted above a University Avenue storefront.<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p>A few years ago I saw a exhibit he did called &#8220;Unlikely saints,&#8221; in which he painted some everyday characters as Orthodox saints, complete with gold leaf background halos- a barista, a landscaper.
