I was looking for this variety of tea at the Chinese grocery store near here- it has dried flowers in it. It’s called EIGHT<\/b> Treasure Tea.<\/p>\n

\nNot four. Not five. Eight. For some reason I can never remember the number. <\/p>\n

\nAt one point I was in SF Chinatown and asked at a tea shop for Four Treasure Tea. The (second generation Chinese-American) girl behind the counter, in obviously natively spoken American English, asked wryly “you mean EIGHT treasure tea?” like “you big dumbass.” It’s good to have people around to kick your ass a little on things like this.<\/p>\n

\nMaybe Four Treasure Tea is half the price or something. Or maybe it’s a factory reject. Or maybe the extra three of four Treasures come as part of a special promotion or something.<\/p>\n

\n The eight “treasures” are specifically:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Chrysanthemums<\/li>\n
  2. Green Tea<\/lI>\n
  3. Jujube<\/li>\n
  4. Chinese Wolfberries<\/li>\n
  5. Dragoneye fruit<\/li>\n
  6. Rock Sugar<\/li>\n
  7. Raisin<\/li>\n
  8. Tremella<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Although there are different variants:<\/p>\n

    1. American ginseng<\/li>\n
    2. dried longans<\/li>\n
    3. \u2018kei chi\u2019 (boxthorn fruit)<\/li>\n

    4. chrysanthemum<\/li>\n
    5. red dates<\/li>\n
    6. rock sugar<\/li>\n
    7. lotus seed<\/li>\n
    8. dragon well tea leaves<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Holy Crap<\/h2>\n

      This bag I bought has individual bags<\/b> full of single serving 8 Treasures Tea! They have all the ingredients including the monster rocks of sugar. <\/p>\n

      \nHere’s the brewing instructions, which I thought were entertaining. There are no typos in this:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • In a cup. Open the teabag, pour the contents into a cup.<\/li>\n
      • Add rock sugar to taste if desired. Then add boiling water.<\/li>\n
      • Leave to infuse for minutes before serving<\/li>\n
      • We can have seueral drinks.<\/li>\n
      • At last, Longan jujube etc, can be used to have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \nI think the last two are meant to convey:<\/p>\n

        • You can use the same leaves to infuse several cups of tea<\/li>\n
